John Fiene, LCSW
I am a clinical social worker and psychoanalytic candidate at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute with over ten years’ experience delivering long‑term psychotherapy across medical, educational, and legal settings. My background equips me to help first‑time clients and those who have already tried multiple treatments without lasting relief.
Currently, I offer assessment for psychotherapy for people of all ages, family therapy, and psychoanalysis for adults.
Why begin psychotherapy?
When entrenched thoughts, feelings, or relationship patterns resist every self‑help effort, psychotherapy offers a path forward. Rather than prescribing quick fixes, I collaborate with you to examine and revise the mental and emotional frameworks that keep you stuck. Real change is experiential: insight must be lived, not simply heard. Cognitive‑behavioral, psychodynamic, and analytic methods describe this in different terms, yet each rests on the same fact—lasting growth comes from the work you do inside the therapeutic relationship.
What kind of issues I help with—
I work with adults and families facing difficulties in attachment and intimacy; persistent sadness or emotional withdrawal; somatic expressions of psychological pain; patterns rooted in relational trauma; intrusive anxiety about daily or future events; chronic procrastination or emptiness; and anger, rage, or moral injury.
Services include—
Comprehensive assessment
Long‑term psychodynamic therapy
Adult psychoanalysis
Couples therapy
Family therapy
Research shows that extended psychoanalytic and psychodynamic treatments yield moderate‑to‑substantial symptom relief and durable personality change long after therapy concludes.
Family and group modalities extend this benefit to interpersonal systems, supporting change that individual work alone cannot reach.
